WOMENS SKI JUMPING USA NEWS | ||
There was a pleasant surprise for me yesterday morning when I woke up. Lindsey and Alissa were on top of me screaming "Happy Birthday!! Jess, we actually remembered this year!!". Schoenwald wasn't my first choice of places to spend my 18th birthday, but Casey, the girls, and all the other teams did an alright job of making the day a little nicer. In the morning, we took 2 jumps: one official training jump and one trial jump. Then back to the youth hostile for food, and back to the hill at noon. There was a little head wind and cross wind, but nothing too intimidating. It was very warm, which is normal for Schoenwald, and right before the first jump, the crowd fired off some shots and the band played a few songs. Everybody's first jump was pretty mediocre, except Lindsey who jumped 89m. Unfortunately, Brenna did not qualify for the second round. She missed the cut by one place. Daniela Iraschko from Austria was winning, and Anette Sagen from Norway was in second. The same thing happened the second round. Bad jumps for all of us except Lindsey. She jumped 90m with an awesome telemark. Karla jumped 74m to finish in 26th, Alissa jumped 77m and ended up in 22nd place, and I somehow put one down at 85.5m and ended up 9th. Had I 1.5 more points, I would have been in 6th. Dani ended up winning, Lindsey 2nd, Anette 3rd, Ulrike Graessler from Germany was 4th, Line Jahr from Norway was 5th, and there was a 3-way tie for 6th, between Monika Pogladic and Maja Vtic, both Slovenians, and Juliane Seyfarth from Germany. We went our for pizza that night, and afterwards went to the awards ceremony, where Lindsey was attacked by trolls, Alissa ran from the trolls, Brenna and Karla terrorized the trolls, and I got my face shoved into a birthday cake... right after Henriette Smeby sang me happy Birthday on stage.
