When Brenna Ellis from
Park City, UT, began ski jumping, she also made the bold decision
to compete in Nordic Combined as well. She was often the
only girl among boys and decided that doing both cross-country
and ski jumping was what she wanted to do. It has only been
in the past year that Brenna decided to put up her competitive
cross-country skis and focus on special jumping.
Those long
hard hours of training did pay off. At the past two Junior
Olympics, Brenna, who started jumping when she was 6, finished
1st in the women's Nordic combined competition and first in the
jumping competition. Brenna's best moments in ski jumping was
when she set her personal record kicking out-of-attic on the K-90
in Streamboat Springs, CO and going 96 meters.
Brenna grew
up with 2 sisters who both competed in freestyle skiing. She is
currently in 10th grade at Park City High School and works part-time
in a restaurant in Park City. She's also been playing soccer competitively
since she was four years old.
Brenna has
a lot of plans for the next years... “I would like to one
day compete in the Olympics for skijumping and to go to competitions
all over Europe and compete with women... comps like the men have!"
Brenna recently
returned from her first European trip competing in Women's Continental
Cups in Austria and Slovenia. She had an impressive 7th
place finish and is looking forward in competing again this season
in Norway, Austria and Germany.
